The "golden" period that decides pepper yield

The flowering – fruit-set stage determines 60–70% of the harvest. Yet many growers face:

  • Vines that do not flower or flower very little
  • Mass drop of flowers or young fruit
  • Empty, uneven, low-quality berries

The cause is often not pests or diseases, but incorrect technique!

5 common mistakes that stop pepper flowering or cause fruit drop

1. Not managing water before flower induction

  • Continuous watering → the vine does not "sense" dry stress → no flower buds
  • Watering too late or stopping water for too short a time → weak, uneven flowering

Solution:

✅ Stop watering 15–20 days before flower induction

✅ Then resume watering together with fertiliser containing phosphorus and boron

2. Nutrient shortage before and during flower formation

  • Lack of phosphorus, potassium, boron, calcium → few, weak flowers that drop early
  • Lack of magnesium and zinc → small fruit that drops young

Solution:

✅ Spray NPK 10-30-10 foliar fertiliser + micronutrients

✅ Add Viet-up 90 to improve uptake and reduce wash-off in the rainy season

3. Spraying insecticides and fungicides at the wrong time

  • Spraying while flowers are in full bloom → flower shock
  • Spraying products with "hot" ingredients → burnt flowers, young fruit drop

Solution:

✅ Stop chemical sprays during flowering

✅ If needed, use only biological products – at low rates – in cool weather

4. Not controlling mealybugs and nematodes during fruit fill

  • Mealybugs attack from the flower buds → flowers fail to develop
  • Nematodes weaken the roots → the vine cannot support its fruit

Solution:

✅ Use Pilaravia 155SC to control mealybugs early

✅ Stimulate roots and help the vine recover with Besviet 0.02SP

5. No canopy management, dense garden – lack of light

  • Canopy too dense → flowers do not get enough sunlight
  • High humidity → fungal disease causing flower drop

Solution:

✅ Prune for good airflow – especially around flowering time

✅ Do not let weeds cover the base of the vines
