What is anthracnose on mango?

Anthracnose is a common and serious disease of mango caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. It develops strongly in conditions of high humidity, heavy rain and dense orchards, especially at the flowering – young fruit set stage.

Symptoms of anthracnose on mango

  • On leaves: Round light-brown spots appear → spread → leaf margins dry and scorch.
  • On mango flowers: Panicle tips blacken, the whole panicle dries black → mass flower drop.
  • On young fruit: Sunken dark-brown spots → spread quickly, fruit drops early.
  • On near-ripe fruit: Round, slightly sunken lesions appear, spread and ooze sap.

Damage if not managed in time

  • Yield losses of 30–50%, or even total loss if the disease appears at fruit set
  • Loss of market value due to blemished, rotten fruit
  • Trees weaken and flower less the following season

How to manage anthracnose on mango

1. Cultural practices

  • Prune branches – open up the canopy – reduce humidity
  • Clear diseased leaves and fallen fruit residue
  • Rotate and avoid dense planting

2. Use a targeted fungicide – Xinazo 250SC

Xinazo 250SC is a broad-spectrum fungicide containing the active ingredient Azoxystrobin 250g/l, used against anthracnose.

  • Systemic – strong contact action
  • Dual action: stops fungal growth & acts on fungal hyphae inside plant tissue
  • Effect lasts 7–10 days after spraying

Rate: 15–20 ml/25L tank of water

Spray in dry conditions – repeat after 3-5 days if the disease is severe

Long-term prevention of mango anthracnose

  • Use Xinazo 250SC regularly after young fruit set
  • Combine with the sticker adjuvant Viet-up 90 when spraying in the rainy season
  • Rotate active ingredients to limit resistance

Frequently asked questions

Can Xinazo 250SC be used on VietGAP-standard mango?

Yes. The product is on Vietnam's list of permitted crop protection products and does not leave residues above the limit if the pre-harvest interval is observed.

Should I spray preventively or wait until the disease appears?

Spray preventively at the start of the rainy season or right after fruit set, especially in areas with a history of severe disease.
