What is Azoxystrobin?
Azoxystrobin is a broad-spectrum fungicidal active ingredient in the Strobilurin group. With good penetration and systemic action, Azoxystrobin helps crops resist diseases caused by 4 main groups of plant pathogenic fungi: Ascomcetes (sac fungi), Basidiomycetes (club fungi), Deutoromycetes (imperfect fungi), Oomycetes (water moulds), which cause leaf and soil diseases such as rust, powdery mildew, downy mildew, black rot, anthracnose, and grain discolouration in rice….
Mode of action of Azoxystrobin
Azoxystrobin acts by strongly inhibiting metabolism in the mitochondria of pathogenic fungal hyphae cells, so fungal spores cannot germinate or reproduce and hyphae cannot develop. Because of this action, Azoxystrobin can affect all parts of the fungal pathogen.
Thanks to its systemic and penetrating properties, this active ingredient is used both for preventive sprays and for controlling fungi. Being systemic, it is also absorbed through the roots and transported through the vascular system to all parts of the plant.
Key characteristics of the active ingredient Azoxystrobin
Azoxystrobin breaks down readily under sunlight through photolysis. It is also degraded by naturally occurring microorganisms. Its half-life in soil is under 2 weeks, so residues left in the plant are very low.
In alkaline, nutrient-poor soils, Azoxystrobin stays in the surface layer of the soil until fully degraded and is very hard to wash away with water, so it does not pollute water sources.
Azoxystrobin is an active ingredient that is not toxic to bees, beneficial insects or earthworms.
